Moorswater
The model depicts the engine shed and wagon works at Moorswater which lies in the valley of the East Looe River below Liskeard. This was opened by the Liskeard and Caradon Railway in 1844 and closed by BR in 1961. The railway history here is rather complex involving three railway companies and a canal. The Liskeard and Caradon Railway which opened in 1844 and was bankrupt by the turn of the century with the rails lifted to the north in 1917. The Liskeard and Looe Railway (the successor to the canal company) ran from Moorswater to Looe harbour. The line was taken over by the GWR in 1909 and the shed remained in use by BR until 1961.
