The Challenge:
It was felt that our 40th annual model railway exhibition should be marked in some way. Whilst not original, it was decided that a challenge would be thrown out to club members to build layouts with a 40 inch long scenic section. They could be fully operable (really only applicable to the smaller scales), a diorama or the half way house of a working diorama.
A small fiddle yard could be provided at one or both ends within a total maximum length of 60". The layout could possibly be extended to a full layout at a later date.
To encourage those of our members who do not normally have exhibition layouts, a small prize was awarded to that judged the most worthy. One of our visiting exhibitors and one of the traders agreed to be the judges. However, to provide a more level playing field, the judges, by a means known only to themselves, would handicap those members who do have layouts on the exhibition circuit.
