Minington Central Tramway
A brief history:
Minington tramway was originally built by Tim Froome back in the early 1990's and appeared at many exhibitions in the Medway area of Kent. The tramway operated using the Hornby Zero 1 DCC system, with many moving items which used a timing mechanism built by Tim and is still in use today, if I am lucky.
Zero 1 has since been superseded by modern day DCC systems, which in turn are much more reliable.
The layout appeared in the Model Railway Magazine of January 1996 (at exhibitions a copy is on hand should anybody wish to peruse it - just ask).
Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether Tim passed away, but the layout was disposed of and a late friend of mine bought it. Again, though ill health the layout was put into storage for many years in a shed and a not too weather proof garage. Subsequently it became rather dilapidated and disfigured in many ways and was completely unusable.
This is where I came onto the scene (in 2010 approx.) and said that I would try to rebuild the layout. The first thing was to increase the main width of the layout from 6" to 12" and have double track for the full length, which meant having completely new base units. The original mine board was used and repaired as necessary. Most of buildings were salvaged, repaired and reused. Some extra buildings were fitted into gaps as required.
The layout is now fully analogue and the time period changed to 1950's - 1960 up from 1900's - 1920's.
